Position Description

Title:  Detention Estimator
Reports to:  Director of Detention Services
Class:  Full-Time, Exempt with Full Benefit Package


Primary Role: Under the direction of the Director of Detention Services, the Project Estimator shall be responsible for the estimating duties of all projects selected to bid and the activities and documents as the position dictates. Responsible for working with sales, operations and purchasing to assemble a bill of materials and labor estimate for each potential project.  Responsible for accurately determining the necessary equipment quantities, pricing and labor needed to complete the job according to company, design documents and/or customer expectations.
 

Responsibilities:


1. Work with engineering and programming staff to determine specific system requirements.
2. Accurately develop bill of materials to include appropriate amount of job-related labor to perform the project.
3. Create a complete estimate of materials, labor and travel expenses utilizing company standard estimating template.
4. Communicate via telephone and/or email with General Contractors, Detention Equipment Contractors and Electrical Contractors to coordinate the scope and requirements of associated project(s).
5. Responsible for generating comprehensive project description and scope of work, including proposals.
6. Complete the project transfer process upon successful award of project per the applicable QMS standards and procedures.
7. Generate and complete when required project pre-qualification data and submit to the Architect and/or Construction Manager.
8. Other duties as required or assigned by company management.


Accountability:  The Estimator will be accountable to the Director of Detention Services. Secondary accountability will be to other members of management, Team Members and customers of the company.


Qualifications:  The Estimator shall possess a two-year electronics degree or equivalent combination of education and related on the job experience.  A working knowledge of detention or related security systems is desired. Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in Touch Screen/PLC Control Systems, CCTV, Access Control and Fire Alarm.


Travel:  Occasional travel to customer and vendor site is required.

2. Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized.
3. Superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers.
4. Ability to manage multiple tasks and bids simultaneously.
5. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups.
6. Proficiency in the use of personal computers including such programs as MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook.
7. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential.
8. Ability to demonstrate planning, organizing and implementing skills which allow the successful completion of a project by a specific due date.
9. Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.
10. Must be able to read and effectively interpret general business documentation as well as project bid documents such as drawings, specification and bid manuals.
11. Valid and current driver’s license.


Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:


1. Employee is required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers.
2. Some light lifting of objects is required.
3. Reaching, grasping and carrying activities also required.
4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
5. Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
