POSITION SUMMARY

Lead and supervise the quality functions within the plant.  Plan, develop, and implement, processes, procedures, and systems that drive defect prevention, improve standardization and eliminate waste.  Communicate customer needs and expectations internally to a variety of organizational functions including operations and engineering. Support operations in meeting objectives for product quality, scrap reduction, and quality systems compliance. Provide support and assistance to operations leadership and associates in resolving problems and implementing continuous improvement activities.  Lead by example and continually develop a culture that embraces the quality policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees QC Inspection, Quality Lead, Quality Technician(s) (QT) and Quality Engineer(s) (QE) and develops the appropriate quality organizational structure to ensure internal and external customer’s needs are met.
  • Accomplishes quality resource objectives and by recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, delegating, scheduling, coaching, counseling, rewarding and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieves quality operational objectives by contributing information and analysis; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing and monitoring Layered Process Audits (LPAs); determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Has extensive knowledge of all AIAG standards, IATF16949 standards, customer requirements and expectations; product specifications, metrology and calibration. 
  • Makes solid data and fact driven quality decisions.
  • Teaches others in the quality decision-making activities, customer requirements, gage techniques, inspection and part fit and function features detrimental to customer satisfaction.
  • Is the “Go To” person, authoritative figure and final decision maker for all quality related decisions and part disposition.
  • Responsible for the Quality Management System (QMS) and all of its related compliance procedures, processes, programs, and practices, to assure plant continuous improvement, conformance and effectiveness.
  • Ensures an effective system is in place for the proper management of document control for records, forms, work instructions, and training records that allows quick, easy accessibly and retrieval vital to maintaining compliance.
  • Develops associates to perform audits, monitors compliance, tracks, and assists in correcting system failures resulting from audit findings within the plant.
  • Oversees Quality Engineering department (Includes development of advanced product quality planning (APQP), processes, control plans, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, (PFMEA)s, process flow diagrams, inspection standards, capability analysis, gages / fixtures, mistake proofing, and successful completion of safe launch activities).
  • Review and approve Production Part Approval Process, (PPAP), submissions.
  • Oversees customer complaint investigations, ensuring proper defect and return analysis is conducted. Leads, coordinates and facilitates cross functional problem solving teams to perform root cause analysis for failures using the appropriate formal problem solving methodologies (8-D, Shainin Red X, and 5-Why, etc.).
  • Use any shortcomings as opportunities to train and enhance their expectations and effectiveness.
  • Provide training in areas when someone is in need of training to enhance their skills.
  • Ensures QEs are entering & managing customer complaints in a timely fashion that meets the customer and internal requirements for response timelines.
  • Ensures customer support is established and covered for all quality & containment concerns, on-site visits and necessary travel to the customer location to fulfill the specific customer needs.
  • Analyzes scrap & Statistical Process Control (SPC), data; coordinates studies and organizes improvement plans for deficiencies.
  • Tracks, monitors and reports QOS and Key Performance Indicators (KPI), metrics and coordinates actions to improve trends.
  • Facilitates and establishes development teams for new program launches.
  • Provides support to each manufacturing department.
  • Meet all physical and environmental requirements.
  • Follows all prescribed safety regulations including the proper use of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Follows all Environmental Policy and Quality Policy guidelines.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition according to established Gibbs 7-S Guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

REQUIRED SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education, knowledge, skills and abilities:

Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university.

Certifications:  American Society for Quality-Certified Quality Engineer, (ASQ-CQE) preferred.

Experience: Minimum five years of experience; detailed knowledge of PPAP, APQP, Failure Mode and Effective Analysis (FMEA), Control Plan development, Measurement System Analysis ( MSA ), SPC and customers’ requirements to IATF16949.

Communication:  Able to communicate effectively with the customer in crucial high tension situations.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the others. Good verbal and written communications skills with ability to communicate specifications and requirements clearly in written and drawing formats. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets data, standards, prints, and procedure & manuals. 

Math: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations; work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical capability, fundamentals of plane, solid geometry and trigonometry.

Computer Skills:  Basic web based access, data entry, Microsoft Office, and SPC software.

Other:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Blueprint, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, (GDT), Metrology, SPC, problem solving, ISO/IATF1649 training a plus. Strategic planning, emphasizing excellence, attention to detail, thoroughness. Demonstrate a professional demeanor and strong leadership abilities, coach, train, and follow up to develop personnel.  Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision while exercising discretion and sound judgment. Be willing to travel to our customers with minimal notice.
