TITLE: Process Engineering Team Lead                               PLANT: Corporate

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Lead Process Engineering teams, provide technical support to technicians and coordinators, mentor process engineers in identifying potential problems and implementing actions to drive continuous improvement throughout the casting processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise and direct Process Technicians and Coordinators to support the performance goals and daily activities.
  • Mentor Process Engineers in making decisions concerning casting quality requirements while  continuing their professional and educational development.
  • Champion new program launches, including process development, product design, testing, and corrective actions.
  • Perform candidate interviews, hiring, planning, assigning accountabilities and directing work.
  • Establish development goals, appraise performance; and make compensation recommendations.
  • Determine appropriate training and development of new and existing team members.
  • Responsible for disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems while ensuring effective team member relations.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to reduce scrap, increase uptime, and decrease cycle time.
  • Lead completion of root cause analysis for failures, assist in developing problem solving teams, and often champion corrective/preventive actions using formal methodologies (i.e. 8-D, Shanin, Six Sigma, Critical Thinking, 5-Why principles).
  • Work with Quality Department to respond to customer quality complaints and engineering changes.
  • Develop and maintain documentation (instructions, forms, etc.), aid implementation and training the appropriate team members.
  • Manage and update process information resulting from process changes (procedures, instructions, forms and training).
  • Follows all prescribed safety regulations including the proper use of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Follows all Environmental Policy and Quality Policy guidelines.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition according to established Gibbs 7-S Guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management. 

REQUIRED SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education, knowledge, skills and abilities:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Associate’s degree or higher is preferred.

Certifications:  Experience with Shainin, Six Sigma, and other formal problem solving methodologies.  Has demonstrated past success in the use of Lean Manufacturing Techniques.

Experience: Minimum two years automotive manufacturing experience in die casting or foundry, experience as a Process Engineer is preferred

Communication: Ability to read, write and interpret routine reports, correspondence, and documents.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts including probability, statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.   

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software.

Other: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Basic understanding of fluid power and thermodynamic principles.  Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings such as casting, machining, and tool prints.  Willing to work in office environment and on the manufacturing floor.  Willing to travel to customer facilities as needed.  Able to work any shift or time including weekends on relatively short notice as needed.  Ability to supervise and manage hourlyteam members.
