Human Resources Generalist                       

DEPARTMENT: Human Resources                         

FLSA STATUS: Exempt                                           

REPORTS TO: Human Resources Business Partner 



The Human Resources Generalist is the team member advocate and liaison between team members and supervision. This role ensures team members understand and follow company policies and procedures.  Performs HRIS administration, hourly wage administration, staffing and/or benefit liaison functions.  Coordinates work flow, team member services, team member relations, and other activities through Human Resources.  Ensures compliance with all legal and corporate guidelines.

  • Responsible for sourcing, interviewing and hiring of hourly team members.
  • On-boarding contact for team members.
  • Responsible for team member investigations.
  • Ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Ensures staffing plans are current and maintained daily.
  • Responds to team member inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Administers hourly compensation program.
  • Processes team member separations.  
  • Provides excellent customer service to supervisors for administrative assistance.
  • Data entry maintenance in HRIS system.
  • Assists team members with benefit questions.
  • Presents human resources data in monthly plant meetings and answers team member questions/concerns.
  • Collaborates with staffing agency on contingent workforce issues/concerns.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of employment law.
  • Follows all prescribed safety regulations including the proper use of all required personal protective equipment.
  • Follows all Environmental Policy and Quality Policy guidelines.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition according to established Gibbs 7-S Guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management. 


To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education, knowledge, skills and abilities:

Education: Four year college or university degree, preferably in Human Resources.

Certifications:  PHR preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years employee relations experience.  Proven track record of positive employee relations experience. 

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; HRIS systems; Internet software; Time and Attendance systems; Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  Knowledge of Visio and Project preferred. 

Other: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize duties in an efficient and timely manner.
